cocktail chocolate berriesNew Year's Eve is always filled with movie marathons and highlights of the top music videos and TV shows of the year. If you want to plan a special celebration with your loved one, you may want to cap the year off with an evening dedicated to especially sweet things. Consider purchasing a variety of delectable treats, from chocolate dipped fruit to chocolate truffles, while screening some acclaimed movies highlighting the dessert. A chocolatey New year's Eve just might turn out to be one of the most romantic gifts your special someone has ever received.

Here are a few contenders for top chocolate-themed movies.

Chocolat - This 2000 blockbuster featuring Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche tells the tale of a woman who opens up a chocolate shop in a conservative French village. Anything related to France, Depp and chocolate is bound to be romantic, and the Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated film is sure to keep the two of you entertained.

Like Water for Chocolate - Set in Mexico during the country's revolution, this adaptation of the novel of the same name captures forbidden love between a man and a woman who can't be together. When the protagonist, Tita, has to watch her romantic interest, Pedro, marry her sister because her father didn't want the youngest to be wed before the oldest, she decides to stay connected to him through her cooking. Although the film has a rather tragic end, it is a love story that has delighted audiences for years.

Chocolate - This 2008 Thai martial arts film steps off of the romantic track and focuses on a socially-awkward girl with a fondness for chocolate who also has the remarkable ability to single-handedly take down anyone who comes in her way. The movie is better known for its appealing action sequences than its plot - lead actress Yanin "Jeeja" Vismistananda wowed critics with her martial arts skills.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - This classic is adored by chocolate lovers of all ages, and you should try to watch both the original 1971 version and the newer incarnation, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring Johnny Depp. From chocolate rivers to Oompa Loompas, this intriguing and mysterious tale will bring back fond childhood memories.

Plan an intimate New Year's Eve that you and your sweetheart can share together.
